In the early 1900's, Rugby was introduced to Italy. Although Italy may not immediately come to mind when thinking about taking an international rugby tour, they are considered a tier one nation by the International Rugby Board. Italy's national rugby team, Italy (Azzurri), competes in the 6 Nations Championship. In fact, the competition was first named the 5 Nations Championship until Italy joined, which forced it to be renamed to the 6 Nations Championship in 2000.

Rugby is young in Italian sports and Italy's national team is constantly improving to make better competition for squads in the UK and France. One of Italy's best tries at the Rugby World Cup was in 2007 in France. They missed qualifying for the quarter-finals by losing to Scotland by two points.

Along with being a part of the growth of Italian rugby, Italy has many cultural excursions and beautiful geography to enjoy. From the Colosseum in Rome to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius in Naples, Italy's unique history and interesting sites make it a complement to any rugby match. A visit to Italy offers sites such as the VaticanRoman Forum, the Duomo, the Piazza del PopoloSt. Peter's Basilica, Tuscany, and the Pantheon and play some rugby matches against Italian competition.
